What She Carried – Concertina Book
What She Carried is a hand-made concertina book created through the printmaking modules of my studio practice. The work brings together drawing, collage, print methods, and symbolic imagery to tell a quiet, unfolding love story, my love story. Each fold opens to a new fragment — from first connection with my husband, to building a home, to family, illness, and enduring companionship.
The book reflects my belief that our lives are shaped by the small things we hold close: letters, rings, shared memories, hope, grief, and the everyday rituals that stitch two lives together. As the pages stretch out, the narrative moves gently across time, honouring the beauty and difficulty of loving someone through every season of life.
Creating this book became a personal act of storytelling — I was told as a child that my life would never see peace - know happiness, now, I can show through this book which is a way to hold moments that are precious, fragile, and fleeting. What She Carried is both an artwork and a keepsake, capturing the emotional landscape of a shared journey, one-fold at a time.
