Where the Mountains Held the Light

Date
December 2025
Location
Toowoomba, South East Queensland, Australia.
Created in December 2025 as a private commission for a couple returning from Japan, The Sun Followed Us Home is a contemplative three-part series inspired by memory, atmosphere, and the emotional residue of travel. Drawing from the quiet beauty of Japanese landscapes, the works explore the way places continue to live within us long after we leave them.
The recurring crimson sun becomes both witness and guide — suspended above shifting mountains, mist, and flowing ink-like forms. Each panel reflects a different emotional rhythm: stillness, distance, and return. Rather than depicting a literal location, the series evokes the feeling of remembering — fragments of light, weather, silence, and connection carried home between two people.
Rendered with soft washes, layered textures, and restrained colour, the collection invites viewers into a space of reflection where landscape becomes memory and travel becomes part of personal story.
