Landscapes - Light, Line and Living Spaces
Landscapes - Light, Line and Living Spaces

This week I explored the landscape through quick contour sketches, ink drawings, and detailed botanical studies. Working with pictures of the outdoors helped me focus on depth and light, while ink encouraged me to commit to what I saw without hesitation. Botanical drawing, in particular, deepened my appreciation for the structure and rhythm of nature. I utilised freshly collected Australian Natives to capture the colour and the lines. These exercises reminded me that observation is an act of connection — and that every line holds a moment of stillness.

I have started to see the landscape not just as something I look at, but something I’m part of. Whether it’s a roadside corner, a cluster of trees, a bunch of flowers, or a shadow cast across stone — it’s all part of the moment I’m trying to capture. Through perspective, tone, and line, I’m not just drawing what’s there — I’m leaving a trace of where I stood, what I felt, and how I saw.
